How to Block Spam Calls? (Android & iPhone)

Spam calls are unwanted or unsolicited phone calls that are typically made for the purpose of selling a product or service, or for phishing personal information. Some spam calls may also be made for the purpose of scamming the recipient.

There are a few ways to identify spam calls:

  • Caller ID spoofing: Some spammers use caller ID spoofing technology to make it appear as if the call is coming from a legitimate source, like a local area code or a familiar business.
  • Unknown numbers: Calls from numbers that are not in your contacts list, or that you do not recognize, maybe spam calls.
  • High-pressure sales tactics: Spammers often use high-pressure sales tactics to try to get you to buy a product or service, or to give them personal information.
  • Automated or pre-recorded message: Spammers often use automated or pre-recorded messages to deliver their pitch or ask for personal information.
  • International calls: Some spammers use international numbers to call numbers in different countries. Area code or prefix that you don't know or you don't have contacts from. It's important to note that not all unsolicited or unwanted calls are spam.

Some calls may be legitimate marketing calls from companies that you have done business with in the past, or from organizations that you have given your contact information. Also, it's important to remember to not provide any personal information or make any payments over the phone unless you are certain that the call is legitimate. If you suspect that a call is a spam, the best course of action is to simply hang up and block the number if possible.

How to Block Spam Calls?

There are a few different ways to block spam calls on both Android and iPhone devices:

Android:

  • Many Android devices come with built-in call-blocking features that you can access from the Phone app's settings menu. These typically allow you to block specific numbers or enable automatic call blocking for numbers that have been flagged as spam by the device's operating system or the phone carrier.
  • If your Android device does not have built-in call-blocking features, or if you want additional functionality, you can download a call-blocking app from the Google Play Store. Some popular options include Call Blocker, Mr. Number, and Truecaller. These apps can block specific numbers, block numbers based on certain criteria (such as unknown numbers), and allow you to create a whitelist of numbers that will not be blocked.
  • Some apps also allow blocking by area code or prefix, if the app is programmed to do so, you can also opt to block callers with certain caller IDs and also have a call log feature, so you could see all the blocked calls.

iPhone:

  • On iPhone, you can block numbers in the recent call list by tapping the "i" button next to the number, scrolling to the bottom of the contact card, and tapping "Block this Caller."
  • The "Silence Unknown Callers" feature automatically sends calls from numbers that are not in your contacts list to voicemail, this feature can be found in Phone app settings.
  • You can also download third-party call-blocking apps from the App Store, like Truecaller, or Mr.Number, which allow blocking calls from specific numbers, allow whitelisting, blocking calls by area code or prefix, and also include call logs for blocked numbers.

Please note that these methods may vary depending on the version of Android or iPhone that you have. It's important to note that third-party apps may also use some permissions that you are not comfortable with and make sure you read the app's permissions before installing it. It's also important to make sure that you're using an app from a reputable developer, to prevent potential security issues.

Stay alert from spam calls.
