Nepalese Telecommunications Authority (NTA), the telecom regulator of Nepal has announced that all Nepalese using smartphones can register their phone IMEI number online to avoid it being blocked as they will make the illegal bought phones not operational in the Nepal mobile networks. 

NTA has started the registration online with your handset IMEI number. In order to make the use and sale of mobile handsets more systematic and regular, the authority has made it mandatory to register the mobile handset identification number IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) ​​with effect from Shrawan 1, 2078. This would also help consumers track their missing phones and discourage illegal phones from operating in the country.

What is an IMEI number?

An IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number is a 15-digit serial number that serves as a unique identifier for a mobile phone. Because no two devices will have the same IMEI, it's a great way to find lost or stolen phones.

How to find the IMEI number?

The mobile handset IMEI number can be found on the back of your phone or under the battery pack or in the box of the phone. It can also be check on your phone by dialing *#06#.

How to register your phone's IMEI number online in Nepal?

You can register your phone's IMEI number by going to the NTA's website. The processes to register IMEI phones online in Nepal are outlined below.

  • Visit NTA’s website, Click here
  • Click SIGN UP to register
  • Select New Importer or Individual Application
  • Select NEW REGISTER from the left side menu and fill the form with all details with Application Type, Brand Name, Model Number, IMEI/ ESN / MEID Number, Application Name, Address, Contact No., Email, ID No. (Citizenship or other ID card no.)
  • Upload the identification of the ID number mentioned above (Should be less than 3 MB)
  • Then click SUBMIT

After completing registration, you can even track/block your mobile phone through this portal.


National Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has already decided to make IMEI registration mandatory in Nepal whether its phone importers or individual.
